Mental Health [Psychosocial] Safety – The Competency Skills for Managers 2. Noticing Signs of Mental Health Challenges
Toxic skill level – [Team members experience] "When I requested a temporary reduction in my workload to better manage my mental health [due to domestic abuse challenges from my ex-partner], my manager brushed it off, saying that everyone deals with stress and that I should just 'toughen up.'" Low skill level – “I haven't really noticed any signs of stress or mental health challenges in my team members. We don't talk about personal issues at work.” High skill level – “I noticed a team member becoming withdrawn and displaying a significant drop in productivity. I approached them privately, expressed concern, and asked if everything was okay. We discussed their workload and identified areas where I could provide support. I also encouraged them to take time off if needed and connected them with our EAP for additional resources. I invite you to assess yourself in The Ten Manager Competencies for Psychosocial Safety
